‘Being grown up isn’t half as fun as growing up: these are the best days of our lives…’ — The Ataris

MaureenSummer, summer, summer summer summer.

My writing is at an all-time low right now, merely because I am so overjoyed and in love with this season that I simply don’t have time to reflect upon my happiness. When I’m sad, I’m more than willing to write out my thoughts and get to the root of my sorrow. I can’t do that when I’m this ecstatic about life; I don’t want to know why I’m happy, I just want to enjoy the moment and take everything in without wondering why it makes me feel the way I do. MaureenLife is surreal. I’m nearly graduating from high school. Just two more days. This event is becoming more and more drastic the closer it comes.

School itself is a joke right now. We don’t do anything in any of my classes — or at least I don’t, because all of my end-of-year projects are finished. So I sit around writing thank you letters to my friends and family members who attended my graduation open house.

What a wonderful thing, open houses. Every graduate should throw an open house. It’s not because it’s an “I love me” party or anything, and it’s not a matter of having everyone come to celebrate me and my accomplishments, but there is something incredibly heartwarming about being in the company of people I love and knowing that they are there to celebrate with me, not because of me. MaureenWho would’ve thought.

I have Senioritis.

Little, goody-two-shoes Maureen: honors class scholar, Co-Editor-in-Chief of the school newspaper for two years straight, varsity athlete (once upon a time), only-skipped-class-twice-in-three years, always does her homework, hardly every tardy… Maureen, the teacher’s best friend.

And I have Senioritis. More »

MaureenMy dad and I helped an old family friend sail his boat for a week in the Caribbean, from St. Lucia to Grenada. Our friend, Randy, is moving his 38-foot catamaran from St. Thomas, through the Panama Canal, and ending in San Diego where he’ll live on the boat with his wife, Jody. Free
Luff
, the boat, was truly my home for a week; we rarely went on shore, and I was okay with that, because I couldn’t imagine a place I’d want to be more. More »

MaureenSo, I’m going on this vacation. We’re leaving on Saturday.

I’ve known about this trip for quite a while, but I never thought I’d need it as bad as I do right now. I never like getting away from my life, but right now, that’s all I really want to do. I look to any chore or activity as a temporary escape from reality. More »

‘I’m all about them words: over numbers, unecumbered, numbered words / hundreds of pages, pages, pages for words…’ — Jason Mraz

MaureenI get these extreme library cravings sometimes. I’ll just be sitting at home, working on some homework or listening to music, when suddenly this urge ignites within me and I must get to the library at once to submerge myself in all the books. More »

MaureenSince this past summer, I have this unwavering urge to express myself through whatever types of media I possibly can. I’ve always had writing, but sometimes it’s nice to use something other than words to convey emotions. After a long separation, art was welcomed back into my life in the most unusual way. More »

Maureen[untitiled]

Snowflakes fall on my cheek,
Like kisses when I’m sick.
You gave me one one time.
My tired eyes saw you
Bend down so low as I
(So low am I, you say),
To press your fleshy lips
Like fingertips on me.
Did you? I don’t recall.
My eyes were shut, I think. More »

MaureenThis is in response to Kierstin’s latest post, “Epiphany,” but it also relates directly to what I’m going through right now.

Lately, I’ve found a gap in my life. Nothing major, not a deep crevice that I’ve fallen into, but just a little gap in my path I’ve caught my foot in. Maybe I’m under-exaggerating, because this gap, though insignificant, pulled me out of my true being. I find myself with a lack of motivation as of late. More »

MaureenWhen I was younger, and my grandmother was dying of cancer, my family and I would pile into our car and drive down to Chicago nearly every weekend. All my mom’s siblings lived there (she’s the youngest of five), so every weekend seemed like a vacation to me and my five year-old brother. More »
