Can you hear us now?

Troy Keith, The Armchair ConservativeJust over one year into his presidency, Mr. Obama is finding that true leadership requires more than lofty ideals, eloquent words and rigid partisanship. Facing a deficit of political capital that rivals that of our own country, he must now decide to push forward in defiance or to begin the slow and inevitable crawl back from the furthest corners of leftist ideology. Race to judgment

Posted on January 22nd, 2010 by Troy Keith

Troy Keith, The Armchair ConservativeIt’s hard for me to accept that racism still exists within our modern society, yet the controversial remarks of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, conveniently surfacing just days before the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr., have once again reignited an issue that should have been long ago relegated to the intellectual scrap heap of history. A brick wall of transparency

Posted on January 6th, 2010 by Troy Keith

Troy Keith, The Armchair ConservativeDuring the middle ages, a particularly devout group of Christian men and women known as the Anchorites would actually wall themselves up in tiny enclosures leaving only small openings for occasional passersby to offer them food and water. Executive decision?

Posted on December 31st, 2009 by Troy Keith

Troy Keith, The Armchair ConservativeWhile many were distracted by the bustle of holiday shopping and the nearly 24/7 coverage of the healthcare debate, President Obama quietly signed Executive Order 13524 on Dec 16th.

America’s house of credit cards

Posted on December 21st, 2009 by Troy Keith

Troy Keith, The Armchair ConservativeIt seems like only yesterday we were basking in the warm glow of Thanksgiving’s Tryptophan euphoria.  Unfortunately, any hope of an afternoon nap, much less a Detroit Lion’s victory, was abruptly cut short as the clang of alarm bells began sounding throughout the country before the gravy-laden dishes had even been cleared from the table.  Merchant’s desperate for cash were calling; it’s Christmas time again. Czar she blows!

Posted on September 14th, 2009 by Troy Keith

Troy Keith, The Armchair ConservativeThe appointment of Presidential “czars” is not a new development in American politics as the practice dates back to the days of FDR. Nearly every president since has used czars in one form or another, George W. Bush being credited with as many as 35.

Much has been made of President Obama’s controversial appointments (as many as 44 by some estimates). More »

The great divide

Posted on September 9th, 2009 by Troy Keith

Troy Keith, The Armchair ConservativeUnlike the standard party bickering of years gone by, the modern political landscape now features a great impassable divide, much like the massive mountain range that separates the hydrological systems of our country.  Water flows either to the left or the right, eventually gravitating into one of two distinct oceans separated by a continent of unyielding terrain. Healthcare — the numbers game

Posted on August 25th, 2009 by Troy Keith

Troy Keith, The Armchair ConservativeHearing all of the talk about the great uninsured masses lately would lead one to think the bodies must be piling up in the streets by now, but what are the real facts behind so many of these conflicting reports? More »

Healthcare: A conservative’s perspective

Posted on August 20th, 2009 by Troy Keith

Troy Keith, The Armchair ConservativeMost average citizens have neither the time nor the inclination to engage in political issues as complex as the healthcare debate, but recent events have prompted a resurgence of grassroots activism throughout the country.

For the most part, we’ve been comfortable allowing our elected officials to sort out the details of such things. We’ve trusted their motivations and had faith in their promise to uphold the values of the constituents placing them into office. Unfortunately, that’s no longer the case. More »

Things that go clunk in the night

Posted on August 13th, 2009 by Troy Keith

Troy Keith, The Armchair ConservativeOn the surface, the cash for clunkers program would appear to make sense to reasonable people, but closer examination reveals some potential potholes in this dead-end road to recovery. More »
